Tomato Thuvayal- Tomato Thokku

Ingredients:

 Tomatoes-250gms

Red chillies-4

Garlic cloves-2

Tamarind-lemon size

Ginger-1 inch

Coriander leaves-1 sprig

Salt

For the tadka:

Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp

Urad dal-1/2 tsp

Cumin seeds-1/2 tsp

Chana dal-1 tsp

Curry leaves


Preparation method

  1. Heat oil in pan, add the ingredients and sauté it.
  2. Once it done, add it to blender, add salt and make a fine paste.
  3. Heat oil in a pan, add tempering spices.
  4. Once they splutter, add the ground paste and cook it till the oil floats on top.
  5. Serve it with rice or roti.

Tomato Rice-pressure Cooker


 

Ingredients

Basmati Rice-1 Kg

Salt to taste

Oil/Ghee

 

For the Tempering / Tadka:

Cardamoms-2

Cloves-4

Cinnamon bark-3 pieces

Bay leaves-2

 

Spices:

Briyani powder:2 tsp

Turmeric-1/4 tsp

 

For the Sauté:

Onions-2 medium

Green chillies-2 medium

Garlic-6 cloves -1/2 tsp. paste

Ginger -2 inch cube-1/2 tsp. paste

Tomatoes- 6 medium (make it puree)

Lemon-1

 

Garnishing

Fresh Coriander – 1/3 bunches

Mint leaves-1/2 bunches (optional)


Preparation method:

  1. Heat ghee in a pan, add washed basmati rice and fry it nicely For the 2 to 3 mins. keep it aside.
  2. Heat ghee/oil in a pressure cooker; add cloves, cinnamon, cardamom and bay leaves.
  3. Add Chopped onions and green chillies and sauté it
  4. Add ginger garlic paste and fry it.
  5. Add tomato puree, turmeric powder, biryani powder and the salt cook it For the 7 mins.
  6. When the oil floats at the top, add the basmati rice and water.(Water ratio 1:2- including the mixture prepared)
  7. Add lemon juice, coriander and mint leaves
  8. Cook it For the 3 -5 whistles
  9. Serve it hot with raita.

Instand tomato Rice:

Instant Tomato rice


Ingredients:

Tomato-6 medium

Onion-2 medium

Green chillies-2

Salt to tatse

Oil

 

Spices:

Sambar powder-1/2 tsp

Turmeric-1/4 tsp

Asfoedita-1 pinch

 

For the tempering/Tadka

Mustard seed-1/2 tsp

Urad dal-1/2 tsp

Cumin seeds-1/2 tsp

Red chillies-2

Curry leaves


Preparation method:

  • Crush the tomatoes by hand.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add tempering spices.
  • Once they splutter, add chopped onions and green chillies and sauté it
  • Add the crushed tomatoes and the masala spices.
  • Cover it and cook it For the 15 mins.
  • Once the oil floats on the top, add cooked rice and mix it well.
  • Garnish it with coriander leaves.
  • Serve it hot with papads or pickle.

Potato-Tomato curry


Ingredients:

Potato-500gms

Turmeric-1/2 tsp

Hing-1/2 tsp

Salt to taste

Green chillies-2

Oil

 

For the tadka:

Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp

Urad dal-1/2 tsp

Fennel seeds-1/2 tsp

Cumin seeds-1/2 tsp

Curry leaves

 


Preparation method:

Boil,peel potatoes and cut into cubes.

Heat oil in a pan add tempering spice and sauté it.

Once they splutter, add chopped green chillies, turmeric, hing and salt.

Fry it For the 2 mins in medium flame.

Add potato cubes and stir it well.

Dry roast it For the few mins in low flame.

Add Hot water cover it and cook For the 10 mins.

Smash it with the spactula so that it’s soft.

Add chopped tomatoes and mix it well, cook For the 5 mins in medium flame.

Garnish with coriander leaves.

Serve it hot with roti or rice.

Tomato Rasam:


Ingredients:

Tomatoes-4 large

Dal Water-1 cup

Coriander leaves

Turmeric-1/4 tsp

Green chillies-3

Salt to taste

Oil

 

For the tempering/tadka

Mustard-1/4 tsp

Urad dal-1/4 tsp

Red chillies-2

Curry leaves

Hing-2 pinch

Cumin seeds-1/4 tsp

Crushed pepper-1/4 tsp

Ghee-2 tsp.

 


Preparation method:

Heat oil in a pan, add tempering ingredients.

Once they splutter, add chopped tomatoes, dal water, turmeric, green chillies and salt.

Simmer and boil For the 10 mins

Garnish it with fresh coriander leaves.

Serve it hot.

Ingredients

Onion-1 medium

Tomatoes-3

Green chillies-4

Salt to taste

 

For the Tadka:

Mustard-1/2 tsp

Urad dal-1/2 tsp

Curry leaves-2 spring

Oil


 

Preparation method:

  1. Fry the Onions, tomatoes and green chillies in a pan with a drop of oil.
  2. Add it to a blender and make a fine paste by adding water.
  3. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, urad dal, curry leaves
  4. Once they splutter add it to the chutney, add salt.
  5. Serve it with hot idly or dosa.

Ingredients:

Tomato-6 medium

Onion-2 medium

Green chillies-2

Salt to tatse

For the tempering/Tadka
